Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for processing a used ion exchange resin, capable of: reducing a generation amount of secondary waste with simple facility; and desorbing radionuclides and heavy metal elements attached to the used ion exchange resin, easily and efficiently.SOLUTION: One embodiment of a method for processing a used ion exchange resin includes bringing an ion exchange resin having an ion exchange group on which radionuclides or heavy metal elements are adsorbed, into contact with a liquid comprising an iron compound, hydrogen peroxide, and ozone. The method further includes the steps of: providing the liquid with the iron compound, hydrogen peroxide, and ozone; measuring an element concentration in the liquid; and adjusting at least one of the amounts of the iron compound, hydrogen peroxide and ozone, based on the element concentration in the liquid measured at the step of measuring the element concentration.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
