PURPOSE: To prevent environmental pollution and to improve workability by dropping the slag scattering from the aperture of a treating vessel in the stage of dephosphorizing and desulfurizing molten iron onto the water surface provided around the aperture thereby granulating the slag.
CONSTITUTION: A lance 2 is immersed in the molten iron M of a treating vessel 1 for dephosphorizing and desulfurizing the molten iron and a treating agent is blown together with a carrier therein whereby the molten metal is treated on the outside of the furnace. The slag scattering from the aperture of the vessel 1 in this treating stage is dropped directly onto the water surface of a cooling spout 4 provided around the aperture to granulate the slag. The pollution of treating environment is thus prevented and the workability in removing the slag is improved.
