Abstract:
To provide a method to reduce a chlorine level by treating various organic compounds.
The method for reducing a chlorine content of an organochloride compound comprises processes to form a mixture by introducing into the organochlorine compound at least one sort of acid selected from the group consisting of a Lewis acid containing no carbon, a mineral acid other than hydroiodic acid and hydrobromic acid, and an organic acid whose pKa is less than ca. 2 to form a mixture, and a process of contacting the organochlorine compound with the at least one acid in the mixture for a time sufficient to reduce the chlorine content of the organochlorine compound.
