Abstract:
PURPOSE: To reduce the start-up period of an anaerobic upward sludge blanket method (expressed UASB method hereunder) by charging granular sludge in a reaction vessel.
CONSTITUTION: Seed sludge is charged in a rotary drum 1 isolated from the external air, waste water is continuously introduced from a pipe 3, and the drum 1 is rotated to grow the seed sludge into granular sludge 56. The granular sludge 56 thus prepared is charged in the reaction vessel 50, and then waste water 57 is treated. As a result, the start-up period of the UASB method can be remarkably reduced.
