To obtain the subject dye useful for dyeing or printing textile materials, excellent in levelness, having violet or reddish blue color tone, in high yield, by reducing a specific triphenodioxazine compound followed by reaction with a specific reactive derivative and then oxidizing the resultant compound.
A compound of formula I [R1 and R2 are each H or a (OH, etc.-substituted) 1-4C alkyl; E is sulfo, carboxyl, a 1-4C alkylsulfonyl, sulfate, phosphate, a halogen, etc.; X1 and X2 are each a halogen such as Cl, 1-4C alkyl, phenyl; V1 and V2 are each H, sulfo, methoxy, etc.; T is H, a group of the formula Z1 (Z1 is an acyl residue, an alkylated or arylated aminocarbonyl residue, etc.) or the formula Z2 (Z2 is the same as Z1)] is reduced into a compound of formula II, which is then reacted with a reactive derivative bearing the group of the formula Z1 or Z2 to form a compound of formula III, which is then oxidized into the objective compound of formula IV.
