PURPOSE: To provide a carpet having a high bulkiness, a high resilient restoration and a toughness by tufting a polyolefin group foundation with pile yarn, and by untwisting the upper part of the pile yarn so as to leave the lower end part of the yarn twisted so as to give a soft touch to the pile.

CONSTITUTION: The upper part of pile yarn 2 tufted to a polyolefin group foundation so as to form a tuft part 3 while leaving the lower end part as it is so as to form a twisted part 4. Further, in a manufacture of a tufted carpet, after the tuft part 3 is formed by fluffing only the upper end part of the yarn 1 by a bent brush roll 12 having bent tip parts, the inclination of the pile yarn 2 is smoothened with the use of a straight brush roll 16. With this method, a soft tough feeling is provided so that the carpet is highly bulky, being tough due to the twisted lower end part of the pile, thereby it is possible to enhance the resilient restoration.
