PURPOSE: To provide a tundish for continuous casting, providing a stopper, which can adjust a flow rate of molten steel flowing into a mold and can continuously and directly measure the molten steel level in a tundish in real time.

CONSTITUTION: In the tundish T for continuous casting, providing the stopper 8, which directs to a pouring hole 4 formed in the inner bottom and can lift with a lifting device 13 arranged at the outside wall, the above stopper 8 is formed to the hollow shape having the bottom 9 and in the inner part 9, an induction type molten steel level meter 11 for detecting the molten steel surface M is arranged. In spite of change of volume in the tundish due to erosion of refractory brick or change of dead wt. of the tundish after starting the casting, the molten steel level can be precisely detected. Further, by this method, overflow of the molten steel and slag from the tundish or flowing-out of the slag into a mold at the time of finishing the casting can be prevented.
