Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of cooling at least a portion of a turbine bucket.SOLUTION: The invention relates generally to rotary machines and, more specifically, to the cooling of at least portions of a turbine bucket. A method comprises, during operation of a turbine, altering a swirl velocity of purge air beneath a platform lip (44) extending axially from a platform (42), where altering the swirl velocity of the purge air includes interrupting a flow of the purge air with a plurality of voids (110) disposed along a length of an angel wing extending axially from a face (62) of a shank portion (60) of the turbine bucket (40).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
