Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve the low temperature start-up of a turbo-charged Diesel engine by providing an auxiliary burner for an exhaust passage connecting the turbine of the super charger and the engine.

CONSTITUTION: A super charger is consited of a turbine 4 and a compressor 5. The turbine 4 is connected to the engine 1 by an exhaust passage 2. The compressor 5 supplies compressed air to the engine through a suction passage 3. An air supplying means (A) and a fuel supplying means (F) are connected to the exhaust passage 2. An auxiliary burner 6 having a starting heater 7 is mounted in the middle of the exhaust passage 2. In starting up the engine, electricity is supplied to the heater 7 to start combustion in the auxiliary burner 6, then the combustion gas thus produced is supplied to the turbine 4.
