To provide a two-cycle diesel engine for reducing a generation quantity of nitrogen oxide.

This two-cycle diesel engine scavenged in the longitudinal direction, particularly, a large capacity two-cycle diesel engine, has at least one cylinder 2 of movably arranging a piston 3 in the longitudinal direction. The cylinder 2 has an exhaust valve 5 for exhausting combustion gas, and a plurality of scavenging opening parts 21 for introducing scavenging air to the cylinder 2. A means for reducing a scavenging quantity is provided in the cylinder 2. A part of the combustion gas generated in a combustion process, remains inside the cylinder 2.
