To provide a two-cycle engine individually adjusting compression and expansion port open and close timing with relatively simple structure although it is a piston valve type.
This engine is provided with a liner changing a port opening position in such a manner that a scavenge port is opened in a piston top dead center side of an exhaust port when the same is positioned at a first position where the same abuts on a stopper 21a and that the scavenge port is opened in a piston bottom dead center side of the exhaust port 32 when the same is positioned at a second position where the same abuts on a stopper 21b. The liner is moved between the first position and the second position by providing a ratchet mechanism 241 selectively permitting and releasing mechanical connection of a piston and the liner 24.
