Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the method by which a series of images are encoded and then decoded and an amount of information to be transmitted or stored is reduced when digitizing an image.
SOLUTION: This method encodes a series of images and the respective images are divided into pixel blocks, cosine transformation is executed on each image block to obtain a coefficient block, the coding is executed using a zigzag path, a variable length or a Huffman code to decide sequence of sending the coefficient to respective blocks, and the variable length code or the Huffman code has at least two tables, one of which is used for coefficients with consecutive zeros before them and the other of which is coefficients without consecutive zeros before them.
