Abstract:

To provide a scanner for enabling higher-speed scanning.

A flatbed scanner (10) includes a housing (12), a transparent platen atop the housing for receiving an object to be scanned, and a carriage (18) operable to travel in the horizontal direction and the vertical direction. The carriage includes a light source (26) for illuminating the object and a rectangular photodetector array (24) for simultaneously detecting light intensity of multiple scan lines.
