PURPOSE: To make a two-dimensional coordinate input unit possible to simply define an input area by installing an area defining information display means on a coordinate input area for a coordinate input means and installing an area defining information storage means and a control means.

CONSTITUTION: The present two dimensional coordinate input unit consists of a coordinate input means 1 for inputting a two dimensional coordinates, an area defining information storage means 2 for storing a value inputted from the coordinate input means 1, an area defining information display means 3 for displaying information stored and held by the area defining information storage means 2, and a control means 4 for controlling the display of information held in the storage means 2 onto the area defining information display means 3 and also for controlling the storage of input data inputted from the coordinate input means 1 in the area defining information storage means 2. With this, an input area can be simply defined.
