PURPOSE: To provide a two-dimensional coordinate reading device which can facilitate the designation of an input mode and also to surely input the coordinates.

CONSTITUTION: The output of a 1st photodetector 22 is switched by a 1st changeover switch 31, converted into a digital signal by a 1st A/D converter 32 and inputted to a microcomputer 30. Meanwhile, the output of a 2nd photodetector 24 is switched by a 2nd changeover switch 33, converted into a digital signal by a 2nd A/D converter 33 and inputted to the microcomputer 30. The contact of a mode changeover switch 26 is directly inputted to the microcomputer 30. Furthermore, the output of a conductive filmswitch 28 provided on the surface of a display 20 is fetched by the microcomputer 30 via a detecting circuit 35. Thus, it is possible to easily switch the modes and also to surely input the coordinates.
