To provide a method for forming such a photocatalyst-containing coating film having a catalyst activity in the visible radiation range as is capable of forming with a good reproducibility a coating film excellent in the characteristics such as adhesion, transparency, photocatalyst performance.
The photocatalyst-containing coating film and the method for forming the same are such that a photocatalyst-containing coating material composition is a mixture of liquid A containing fine particles of a pyrochlore-relating structure oxide which is expressed by the compositional formula (I): A2-XB2+XO8-2δ (where -0.4<X<+0.6; and -0.5<2δ<+0.5) and which has been inserted with an oxygen ion into at least one oxygen deficit position and an interstitial position from the view point of a fluorite type structure of a pyrochlore-type oxide expressed by the compositional formula (II): A2-X3+B2+X4+O7+(X/2)+Y (wherein -0.4<X<+0.6; and -0.2<Y<+0.2) with liquid B in which at least one kind compound selected from a methyl group-containing organomonosilane and an organosilane oligomer is dissolved in a solvent, and that the above photocatalyst-containing coating material composition is coated on a substrate, and then the coated substrate is dried and cured.
