Abstract:

To provide a multi-functional torque converter with a two pass fluid circuit which provides the functionality of a three pass fluid circuit, and to provide a multi-function torque converter in which a pump clutch remains engaged while a turbine clutch is engaged to prevent "run away".

This multi-function torque converter includes: an apply pressure chamber 116 for a torque converter clutch; a first pressure chamber 114 including an annular space; and an elastic flow control element 102 in fluid communication with the provided pressure chamber and the first pressure chamber and arranged to control fluid flow from the first pressure chamber to the provided pressure chamber.
