Title:
TWO-STEP PROCESS FOR SWEETENING SOUR HYDROCARBON FRACTION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH04328196
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a process for sweetening a sour hydrocarbon fraction by selectively hydrogenolyzing tert-mercaptans in this fraction and reacting prim- and sec-mercaptans with an oxidizing agent under specified conditions to industrially advantageously sweeten the mercaptans comprising the fraction.

CONSTITUTION: A tert-mercaptan in a sour hydrocarbon fraction containing prim-, see-and tert-mercaptans is hydrogenolyzed in the presence of a selective hydrogenolysis catalyst contg. a Group VIII metal and/or a Group VIB metla in a liqudi phase pref. at 25 to 300°C under 689 to 6,894 KPa. Then the prim- and see-mercaptans are oxidized into disulfides in the presence of a basic component and an oxidation catalyst carrying a metal chelate.
