PURPOSE: To improve a target separating capacity by taking the peak and the bearing of a waveform having resulted from subtracting the waveform of one target from the observed waveforms of signals received by a sonar or the like including two targets as the peak and the bearing of the waveform of the other target.
CONSTITUTION: A level and a bearing are set (a) from the observed waveform of a signal received from a sonar or the like as the initial value of a peak investigating first target and the waveform of the first target is formed (b) from the level, the bearing and the beam pattern of the sonar or the like. Subsequently, the obtained waveform is subtracted (c) from the observed waveform and the maximum level and the bearing of the result of a subtraction (c) are investigated (d) as a second target. The waveform of the second target is formed (e) from the level and the bearing of the second target and the beam pattern of the sonar or the like. Then, the obtained waveform is substracted (f) from the observed waveform and the maximum level and the bearing of the result of the subtraction (f) is investigated (g) as the first target. An operation is fed back to a processing wherein the beam pattern of the sonar or the like and the waveform of the first target are formed (b). The bearings of the first and second targets are judged. (h) as given convergent values by the repetition of the above-described operation.
