PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform type detection to a tape cartridge in which a plurality of parts to be detected are formed with a simple configuration.SOLUTION: A type detection device 37 which detects type information of a tape cartridge C which is mounted on a cartridge mounting part 21 to be used and in which a plurality of parts to be detected 53 indicating type information are formed side by side in the mounting direction on the side surface, comprises a type detection sensor 61 which is fixedly arranged, faces the surface along the mounting direction of the mounted tape cartridge C, and scans the plurality of parts to be detected 53 by using the movement of the tape cartridge C following the mounting.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
