Abstract:

To provide an ultrahigh-pressure discharge lamp with a high illuminance keeping rate by preventing the lamp from blackening.

The ultrahigh-pressure discharge lamp includes an arc tube made of quartz glass and composed of an arc tube part and a sealing tube part set adjacent to the arc tube part, inside of which mercury of 0.15 mg/mm3or more is enclosed and a pair of electrodes are arranged in opposition to each other with axis parts of their base end parts buried in the sealing tube part, a plurality of grooves opened to a discharge space are formed at an outer periphery face of each electrode at a position near the boundary between the arc tube part and the sealing tube part. Or, when a coil is wound around near the tip of the electrode, a plurality of the grooves opened to the discharge space are preferred to be located further rearward than the coil, at an outer periphery face of the electrode.
