Title:
ULTRASHORT PULSE FIBER LASER SOURCE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3486612
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate an optical pulse having a pulse width of sub-picosecond and an arranged waveform directly from a mode synchronizing ring laser without using an optical compressor.
SOLUTION: A mode synchronizing ring laser device comprises an optical amplifier 1, a band-pass type optical filter 2, an optical modulator 3 and ring resonators each formed by connecting like a ring a single mode optical fiber in which the average value of the group velocity dispersion is abnormal dispersion, is also comprises an output coupler for taking out an optical pulse generated in the resonators. By using a dispersion reducing optical fiber 7 in which the size of abnormal dispersion reduces in the travelling direction of optical pulse and a dispersion increasing optical fiber 8 in which the size of abnormal dispersion increases in the travelling direction of optical pulse as one or whole of the single mode optical fiber, one part of the power of the optical pulse whose pulse width is reduced by the dispersion reducing optical fiber is taken out of the output coupler 5, and the residual power of the optical pulse is inputted into the dispersion increasing optical fiber to extend the pulse width and is turned around in the resonators.
