PURPOSE: A colored resin composition having transparency and ultraviolet screening property, freed from harmful matter and suited as a material for food containers, prepared by mixing a transparent resin with a finely divided colored titanium oxide powder having a specified specific surface area.
CONSTITUTION: A transparent resin is mixed uniformly with 0.05W5wt% finely divided colored titanium oxide powder with specific surface area of 15W50m2/g. Any transparent resin can be used as fas as it is transparent, but resins used especially for food package include polyethylene, polypropylene, polyester, acrylic resin and polyvinyl chloride. When the finely divided colored titanium oxide has a specific surface area <15m2/g, the transparency of a resin composition is lowered and the visual inspection of the inside of a container prepared therefrom becomes difficult. Although there is no upper limit of the specific surface area, the limit which can be attained by the present production process is 50m2/g.
