A number of ribs 2 (2a, 2b, 2c) are pivotally supported at their ends against the outer periphery of the end of a shank 1 (1a, 1b, 1c) in such a way that they can be expanded folded in the radial direction, tips 2a are provided integrally with the ends of the ribs 2, a canopy 3 is stretched over the upper side of each rib 2, a grip is formed at the end of the shank 1, the ribs 2 and the canopy 3 are expanded and folded by a sliding cylinder 4 passed through the shank 1, and the tips are fitted into and removed from the grips when the umbrella is folded. The tips are curved inward from the ends of the ribs.
