To provide a granulating device and a granulating method suitable for working plastics, which especially have an undesirable water absorbing tendency at the contact with cooling water.

This device has at least one extruding machine 1, at least one perforated plate 4 having nozzles, through which plastic can be extruded in the mode of respective strands, a cutting tool 3, which can cut the extruded plastic strands into short fragments or granules with a cutting plane parallel to the discharging plane of the perforated plate 4 and can be rotated about the horizontal shaft by being driven with at least one electric motor, a water inlet 13 and the discharging port 5 of a water-granule mixture. In addition, the device has a cooling chamber 2, in which cooling water is filled and, at the same time, through which the cooling water is passed. Further, the water inlet 13 is arranged above the rotary shaft of the cutting tool 3, below which the discharging port 5 is arranged. The discharging port 5 is made as a free outlet. Further, this device has a separating device 9, which is connected to the discharging port 5 for separating the granules from the cooling water and is arranged just beneath the discharging port 5.
