Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain both an underwater antifouling agent excellent in safety and hygiene and environmental protection, capable of preventing marine organisms from attaching themselves to parts to be brought into contact with seawater, such as ship, offshore structure and fishing net and an antifouling coating material containing the agent, by using a hexacyano compound as an active ingredient.
SOLUTION: This underwater antifouling agent comprises a hexacyano compound as an active ingredient. A hexacyanoferrate is preferable as the hexacyano compound. Especially one or more selected from sodium, potassium and ammonium of iron (II) hexacyanoferrate (II), iron (II) hexacyanoferrate (III), iron (III) hexacyanoferrate (II) and iron (III) hexacyanoferrate (III) is preferable in terms of safety and hygiene and environmental protection. The underwater antifouling agent may be formulated with cuprous oxide besides the hexacyano compound. A coating component is mixed with the underwater antifouling agent to give the objective antifouling coating material.
