To enable compactness and lightness in weight as a whole so as to achieve excellent portability, to surely penetrate down to required depth in a vertical direction even though stones or the like are accumulated at a water bottom, and to collect a bottom material sample, such as mud and sands accumulated on the water bottom in the shape of an undisturbed column.
A water pressure resistant housing 10 of a closed structure including a control part, a floating body 12 arranged on the water pressure resistant housing, and a detachable mud collection pipe 14 extending downward from the water pressure resistant housing are included, left and right horizontal thrusters 16 and vertical thrusters 18 are provided around the water pressure resistant housing, the entire device is made to be neutral buoyancy and to have structural stability so as to make the mud collection pipe downward at all times, the vertical thrusters and the horizontal thrusters enable three-dimensional positional movement in water, driving force of the vertical thrusters performs penetration of the mud collection pipe to a bottom material foundation and extraction from the bottom material foundation, and thus, a bottom material sample is collected in the shape of an undisturbed column.
