PURPOSE: To enable underwater cutting of a thick material to be cut, such as thick stainless steel, while preventing the infiltration of water (mist of water) at a cutting boundary coated with an assist gas and into the assistant gas.
CONSTITUTION: This underwater laser beam cutting device for cutting the thick stainless steel 3 by irradiating the thick stainless steel 3 with a laser beam 2 in the water is provided with a mechanism for forming a pressurized water curtain 7 around the laser beam 2 with which the thick stainless steel 3 is irradiated, a mechanism for forming an air curtain 8 on the inner side of the pressurized water curtain 7 and a mechanism for forming jet water flow 11 behind the cutting section by the laser beam 2 in the air curtain 8. The infiltration of the water to the cutting boundary is prevented by the action of the jet water flow 11 and the assist gas.
