To provide an uneven woven or knitted fabric having no directionality in wiping performance, and providing all of nonconventional touch feeling, hand and drape, water-absorbing properties and wiping properties when used as a towel or the like.

The uneven woven or knitted fabric includes at least 30 mass% yarns having uneven structure in the longitudinal direction based on the whole yarns constituting the fabric. The yarn has ≥200/m number of convex parts, ≥200 dtex total fineness and ≤1.0 dtex single fiber fineness of the yarn constituting the convex part. The width W of the convex part of the yarn having the uneven structure is preferably ≥1.5 times of the width D of the core part.
