This binding device is provided with a flat face guide 402 having a guide face in parallel with the bottom face of a large bundle A and a bottom press 40 arranged with a bearing guide 408 consisting of a plurality of rollers at difference levels. In binding in the longitudinal direction, the two sections of the guide 402 and the bearing guide 408 hold a binding band B and press (a) the end of the paper sheet surface of the bundle A. In binding in the short direction, while only one site of the bearing guide 408 presses (b) by rotary contact, the band B is pulled and tightened while being held between the press 40 and the bundle A.
