To provide a universal head having an oscillating mechanism miniaturizable with excellent responsiveness.
The oscillating mechanism 1 has rotating bodies 3, 4 sharing a rotation axis X and rotatable independently of each other, and a support base 5 supporting optical equipment 2 and capable of oscillating around a point P on the rotation axis as an oscillating fulcrum. The rotating bodies 3, 4 have a pair of cams 6, 6 provided in the opposed positions with the rotation axis X placed in between and inclined toward the support base 5. The support base 5 has sliding projections 7, etc., slidable on the inclined faces of the respective cams 6, etc., at four parts. When the respective rotating bodies 3, 4 are independently rotated, the oscillating angle of the support base 5 is determined corresponding to the relative positions of the respective sliding projections 7 contacting the respective cams 6, etc.
