To prevent white smoke from being generated in winter, and in a middle period by appropriately supplying or stopping supplying scattered water to a passage for both dry and wet air by adjusting water level in an upper water bath.
The passage 12 for both dry and wet air and a wet-type air passage 13 are arranged adjacently in the width direction of a fresh air-taking opening at the lower portion of the upper water bath 11 for a DC/AC-type cooling tower having a number of water-scattering holes at the bottom surface. A partition plate 14 is arranged nearly vertically inside the upper water bath 11 corresponding to the boundary between the passage 12 for both dry and wet air and the wet-type air passage 13, and is formed to be lower than the peripheral wall of the upper water bath 11, thus forming a water-scattering section for the passage 12 for both dry and wet air. Concretely, the partition plate 14 is in a closed-loop, flat, nearly rectangular or oval shape, and a partial water bath 14A that is one type of the water-scattering section for allowing scattered water to flow to the passage 12 for both dry and wet air is formed in the upper water bath 11.
