Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a converting material having good conversion efficiency and sensitivity for IR ray in 1.3μm wavelength range for optical communication and 1.6μm range for inspection of optical fiber lines by using an upward converting material for IR and visible ray wavelengths containing Dy bromide.
CONSTITUTION: This upward converting material for IR and visible ray wavelengths contains at least Dy bromide or Dy bromide and Er or Er bromide as additives to give a function of absorption and luminescent center. The base material which stably includes these additives contains at least Y bromide or Y compd. containing no oxygen nor fluorine. Or, K may be used instead of Y or K may be added to Y. This upward converting material for IR and visible ray wavelengths is produced, for example, by the following method. Namely, DyBr3 and powders or elements of Er and Y are mixed in a specified compounding ratio and heated in a proper chamber for calcination. The calcining conditions are, for example, at 650 to 1200°C in a heating furnace for 10min to several tens hours.
