The urn for burial is composed of a container body with an opening on top for depositing ashes and a lid body for sealably covering the opening on top. The lid body is characterized in that it has an outer peripheral edge having an inner periphery opposing in an overlaying manner to the outer circumference of the container body, and that the overlaying length of the outer peripheral edge on the outer circumference of the container body is set such that between the outer circumference of the container body and the inner periphery of the outer peripheral edge of the lid body, infiltration of water into the container body is impossible by a pneumatic resistance inside the container body, when the container body with the lid body covered is submerged in water in a posture as is placed as the urn for burial.
