Abstract:

To provide flocculant capable of efficiently separating and recovering suspended solids remaining in a filtrate, in a Bayer process of an alumina production process.

A water-soluble or water-dispersible silicon-containing copolymer is formed by copolymerizing 5 wt.% or more of -Si(OR)3 group-containing unsaturated monomer as -Si(OR)3 group, wherein R is one or more selected from the group comprising Na+, K+, and NH4+. Preferably the copolymer uses an acrylamide as a main monomer component. The silicon-containing polymer is a hydroxamated silicon-containing polymer.
