Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for desulfurizing an alcoholic feed containing a sulfur-containing compound deleterious as catalyst poison in a hydrogen production process.SOLUTION: A process for desulfurizing an alcoholic feed comprising methanol and/or ethanol and 1 to 10 wt.% of a denaturing agent comprising a hydrocarbon-containing compound and a sulfur-containing compound based on the weight of the feed comprises contacting the alcoholic feed with a capture mass comprising iron oxides or zinc oxides more than 20 wt.% of zinc ferrite in the presence of hydrogen at a temperature in the range of 200 to 400°C to capture sulfur on the capture mass.
