PURPOSE: To provide a user with an ability of defining and generating a custom function so that the user can respond to a unique enciphering request.
CONSTITUTION: A user-defined functional(UDF) mechanism is provided to a cipher module 101. The UDF mechanism provides a user with an ability of defining and generating a custom function in respond to an enciphering request. The module 101 is contained in a physical logic-protective environment and provided with a processor and storage device connected to a processor. The storage device stores the code used for converting the UDF into a machine- readable form and at least one command for operation on the UDF. The UDF is loaded on the total security protective area of a transaction security system and executed in the protective area.
