Title:
UTILITY KNIFE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2633823
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an utility knife capable of resisting force in an axial direction tending to push back a blade into a handle though the blade is easily moved in the handle.
SOLUTION: A button 30 is depressed and an actuator 50 and a blade carrier 48 are slid along glideaways 82 and 61 to extend or retract the blade through a front slot. The elastic member 74 on the actuator 50 urges projections 76 on the actuator 50 into engagement with detents provided within the handle. During cutting, in order to resist upward force applied to the blade, a blade guard surrounds at least a part of the front slot. On the other hand, in order to protect the carrier 48 from a damage by the blade, a carrier guard 60 is in contact with a blade tip within the handle. The carrier 48 and the actuator 50 include abutting surfaces for effectively transmitting axial compression forces on the blade from the carrier 48 to the actuator 50 without exerting excessive force on the joint between both of them.
