Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a composition, such as that used as a fuel, safely and effectively utilizing low-rank coal and peat and comprising a slurry containing a powdered fuel comprising an oil-coated low-rank coal, an oil-coated peat or the like having a specified water content and a specified particle diameter.
CONSTITUTION: Low-rank coals including subbituminous, lignite and brown coals or peat are crushed and immersed in an oil such as palm oil or a used oil and dried by heating to a temperature of 163-227°C in the oil to a water content of below about 5 wt.%. After the removal of excess oil, the coal is then ground to 75%-200 mesh to obtain an oil-coated low-rank coal or an oil- coated peat. Next, the resultant ground product is well mixed with water and a suspension stabilizer such as a starch-grafted polymer to obtain a safe effective fuel utilizing a low-rank coal and peat and comprising about 44 to 70 wt.% coal, about 29 to 55 wt.% water and about 1 to 5 wt.% oil.
