To prepare a polyurethane emulsion, comparatively quickly curable, forming films having soft feel, good in chemical resistance, hydrolytic stability and toughness and usable for soft touch coating films.
A mono- or bi-functional isocyanate-reactive compound comprises (1) an unsaturated polyester acrylate containing hydroxy group, (2) a polycarbonate diol, (3) a polyether diol, (4) if required, a monohydroxy hydrophilic polyether and (5) an ionic or latently ionic group. The subject irradiation-curable aqueous polyurethane emulsion is obtained by a process comprising reacting the mono- or bi-functional isocyanate-reactive compound with (6) a diisocyanate and/or a polyisocyanate to form an aqueous dispersion of reaction products of components (1) to (6), and reacting the dispersion with (7) a diamine and/or polyamine, wherein the equivalent ratio of the isocyanate groups in the component (6) to the sum of the isocyanate-reactive groups in the components (1) to (5) is from about 1.2:1 to about 2.0:1.
