To provide a UV drying apparatus and a UV drying method for drying and hardening UV paint on the surface of a workpiece effectively and uniformly making effective use of a small number of UV lamps.

The UV drying apparatus comprises a UV drying chamber 31 having shutter plates 57, 59 at an inlet and an outlet and shielded from the outside by closing the shutter plates 57, 59; upper UV lamps 33 irradiating the workpiece W carried into the UV drying chamber 31, with ultraviolet rays form above; a side UV lamp 35 irradiating the workpiece W carried into the UV drying chamber 31, with ultraviolet rays from the side; a fixture wagon 17 carried in and out of the UV drying chamber 31 in a state of holding the workpiece W; a rotationally driving device 39 engaged with a part of the fixture wagon 17 to rotate the fixture wagon 17 and the workpiece W held by the fixture wagon 17 at a predetermined rotating frequency.
