To provide a vacuum cleaner which allows sufficient usage time and also giving stronger suction force when using a handy cleaner as a stick type cleaner.
When the cleaner is used as the stick type vacuum cleaner, four batteries 9 inside a cleaner body 2 are connected in parallel to four batteries 12 inside a stick 6 with the connection switch of a power source/connection switch 43. In this state, when power is fed to the motor of an electric blower, the capacity of the batteries is doubled but a supply voltage to the motor 8 is the same. Thus, the cleaner is operated for a long time. When the four batteries 9 inside the cleaner body 2 are serially connected to the four batteries 12 inside the stick 6 with the connection switch 43, a current voltage is doubled, so that power consumption is doubled in the motor 8. In response to it, the suction force is increased.
