Title:
VACUUM ENCLOSURE AT CRYOGENIC TEMPERATURE, ESPECIALLY DEVICE AND PROCESS FOR REMOVAL OF HYDROGEN FROM HIGH ENERGY ACCELERATOR
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH04313317
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To establish the removal technique of hydrogen from a vacuum at a cryogenic temp. without using a non-vaporizing type getter.

CONSTITUTION: A material 18 for sorbing hydrogen comprises a water absorber adherent to at least one surface of a strip 12 as a support, especially aluminum oxide particles 20 and palladium oxide particles 22 which are in contact with the absorber. Palladium oxide preferably presents as many clusters covering the aluminum oxide particles 20 in the form of a thin layer. When the material for sorbing hydrogen is brought into contact with the hydrogen at a cryogenic temp., the palladium oxide is changed to palladium and H2O and without passing through a gaseous phase, the H2O is directly sorbed with the aluminum oxide. A pressure on a level of below 10-9 mbar is maintained in a particle accelerator and a storage device.
