PURPOSE: To rapidly discharge a cavity space by a method which is simple and is adequate in terms of a cost by putting a metal hydride into a cavity body, heating the cavity halide, scrubbing the interior of the cavity body by the generated gaseous hydrogen and closing an aperture, then cooling the cavity body.
CONSTITUTION: The metal hydride 7 is put into the cavity body 4 and the cavity body 4 is heated to a temp. (max. 500°C) at which the gaseous hydrogen accumulated by the hydride 7 liberates drastically. The original existing gaseous atmosphere is scrubbed by the released gaseous hydrogen and after an aperture 6 is closed, the cavity body 4 is cooled and the originally existing hydrogen atm. is sorbed by the metal forming the hydride. Ti(V1-a-bFeaAlb)xyMnz {1<x≤2, 0<y≤0.2, x+y≤2, 0<a<0.4, 0<b≤0.2, a+b≤0.5, (1-a-b=)x≥1, 0<z≤2-x-y} is used as the metal hydride. The amt. of the metal hydride to be inserted is specified to at least 3 g/cm3 based on the discharge volume and the metal hydride is packed smaller by 5% than the original discharge volume.
