Abstract:

To provide a technique holdscapable of quickly identifying a rotation position of a cam in a valve drive system of an internal combustion engine in which the cam rotated or rocked by a power engine independent of the internal combustion engine opens and closes the valve.

In the valve drive system of an internal combustion engine having the cam rotated or rocked by the power engine independent of the internal combustion engine, the power engine rotates n times per one rotation of the cam. A cam position sensor is configured to output signals of different patterns according to rotation ranges in which the cam rotates during one rotation of the power engine. This makes it possible to quickly identify a rotation position of the cam.
