To guide movement of a timing belt to reduce a load, thereby inhibiting occurrence of noise, and to enhance durability of the timing belt, in a valve gear for an engine in which an axial distance dimension between a drive pulley and a driven pulley is set such that tension is given to the timing belt of a timing transmission means provided between a crankshaft and a camshaft.
A belt guide means 130A for guiding the movement of the timing belt 112 by making contact with the outer circumference of the timing belt 112 between the drive pulley 110 and the driven pulley 111 is disposed in an engine body 34 including a crank case 35 and a cylinder head 37 so that a contact part where the belt guide means 130A makes contact with the timing belt 112 may be a travelling position of the timing belt 112 in a stretched state.
