Abstract:
PURPOSE:To provide the most suitable valve timing and improve an output characteristic in a device in which an intake valve and an exhaust valve are driven by a cam, respectively, by a method wherein an outer shape of a cam for each of the cylinders is made different to each other for each of the cylinders. CONSTITUTION:Valve operating device is constructed such that intake valve mechanisms 3 and 4 and exhaust valve mechanisms 5 and 6 are provided for each of the cylinders 1 and 2, and each of the rocker arms 7 to 10 acting as the cam followers are connected to the valve ends of each of the pairs of the valve mechanisms 3 to 6 by the adjusting nuts 3 to 16. Each of the pairs of arms 7, 8 and the arms 9, 10 is rotatably supported by each of the common rocker shafts 11, 12. In this case, when a central cylinder 2, for example, is heated to a higher temperature during an operation than that of the outer cylinder 1, a shape of each of the cams 22 to 25 is defined so as to cause the tappet clearances of the cams 23, 25 of the cylinder 2 to be higher than that of the cams 22, 24. Thus, each of the tappet clearances after a thermal expansion is made to be approximately the same with each other and to get a desired object.
