To provide a valve system for easily performing replacing work of tappet clearance adjusting shims, while minimizing frictional resistance of rocker arms.
This valve system 30 has valves 16 and 18 having valve stems 16a and 18a supported by a cylinder head 7, a camshaft 31 having cams 38 and 39 for opening and closing the valves, rocker shafts 41 and 55 arranged in parallel to the camshaft, and the rocker arms 32 and 33 rockably supported by the rocker shafts. The rocker arms have rollers 48 and 61 rollingly contacting with the cams, and pressing parts 49 and 62 opposed to the tip of the valve stems. The tappet clearance adjusting shims 50 and 63 are interposed between the pressing parts of the rocker arms and the tip of the valve stems. The rocker arms can slide in the shaft direction of the rocker shafts between a first position for the pressing parts to contact with the shims and a second position for the pressing parts to separate from the shims, and are held in the first position via springs 53 and 66.
