To enable to open/close intake/exhaust valves at a highly accurate timing even at engine start-up by installing a driven shaft that rotates together with the rotation transmission member at normal operation, and providing an engaging member to the driven shaft or the rotation transmission member and a recess that can be engaged therewith on the other member.
This valve timing adjustment device 20, which adjusts the valve opening/closing timing by rotating and displacing a camshaft (driven shaft) 17 in relation to the crankshaft, is composed containing a vane rotor 23, which has a plurality of vanes 22, in a housing 21. This time, a pin easing 24f is formed at a connecting portion 24a of a sprocket 24 that is integrated with the housing 21. A pin (engaging member) 52 is fit therein. The pin 52 is energized in the direction such that it protrudes from the pin casing 24f by a spring 53. A pin hole (recess) 17c is formed in the camshaft 17 in a location corresponding to the pin 52. At a low hydraulic pressure when the engine is stopped, the pin 52 is fit into the pin hole 17c, thereby integrating the camshaft 17 with the sprocket 24.
