To provide a valve timing control device for an internal combustion engine enabling suitable operation of an engine even in insufficient supplied oil pressure, in the valve timing control device for an internal combustion engine having two variable valve timing mechanisms on an intake side and an exhaust side.
After engine start, when an engine speed exceeds a first engine speed NE1 (S100:YES), operation of the valve timing mechanism on the intake side is permitted (S140), and further, when the engine speed exceeds a second engine speed NE2 higher than the first engine speed NE1 (S120:YES), operation of the variable valve timing mechanism on the exhaust side is permitted (S140). Therefore, in a status of insufficient supplied oil pressure like in the engine start, the variable valve timing mechanism on the intake side to contribute to improvement in volumetric efficiency is preferentially operated.
